( Lets call our child "Dev")
No excuses in this.
Accepting this thought, will bring a great positive change in the lives of all members in the house.
It is game ON everyone! So where are the therapists? Of course you are. But are you qualified to be one? The constant doubt/fear you have possessed!
YES you are absolutely qualified .... some skill building and back to your mindful best state is required. Today, I will pen down guidelines for all parents of children with behavioral difficulties for the first month.
THUMB RULES: -All activities to be done in a very very very slow and gradual pace. Extremely Slow! -Use of single word, only when needed. No talking!
1. De-clutter your home. Simple rule, if you have doubts about an item, it means it has to go. Take 1 week to de-clutter. Oh ya! Do not try to drag Dev into this activity. Dev need not be involved in anything just trust that he is noticing. Your house is now clean and you have found and made new spaces and new seating areas.
2. Change your furniture. Yes! it's fun turn it around a bit! Come on, it's fun. If Dev comes to help in this, do take his help. Else let him watch. If he tries to put it back as it was, let him.
3. Check for all plastics and bright colours, loud sounds which can be removed. Yes, your life is about to change a bit! You may not be able to play your Bose speaker for a while. It's all for the larger good.
4. You are tired by now. Take a breather, hug Dev and say "I am tired" and look into his eyes and wait for 30 seconds. He will not look immediately, he will in 30 sec or else let him go gently. Your emotion when he still doesn't see after 30 secs is understandable. You are disappointed but the emotion you should be showing Dev is genuinely " I will wait, I know it will happen"
That's all for Month 1. If you are not able to do any of this, you need a guide! Get one soon. I will soon be posting Month 2. Be ready!
